Night Trail Clinic
Learn to read the trail when the light fades.
With test lighting from STOOTS.
Trail running in the dark requires more than just a good headlamp.
Your depth perception changes, obstacles become harder to read, and your speed feels different. During this practical clinic, lasting approximately 3 hours, you will learn how to move safely, efficiently, and confidently when the sun goes down.
Additionally, you will have the opportunity to test various STOOTS headlamps and light configurations directly on the trail.
No headlamp yet? Perfect.
First, test different light intensities, beams, and configurations in real conditions before deciding what works for you.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN DURING THE CLINIC?
01 — Seeing and moving in the dark
We start with what changes as soon as the light fades.
You will learn, among other things:
How your vision and depth perception change
Where you look while running
Why constantly looking right in front of your feet slows you down
How to adjust your pace to visibility and terrain
How shadows and contrast affect obstacles
How to keep moving relaxed when visibility is limited
02 — Understanding your lighting
Not every headlamp provides the same type of light.
We will examine, among other things:
Light intensity and lumens
Width and shape of the light beam
Flood versus focused light
Adjusting light intensity to speed and terrain
Battery life and power management
Comfort and stability
Positioning of your headlamp
The importance of backup lighting during longer trails
You will see various STOOTS setups and can test them yourself on the terrain.
03 — Technique in the dark
Then we'll hit the terrain.
We will work on:
Foot placement
Looking ahead
Line choice
Reading roots, rocks, and other obstacles
Taking turns
Climbing in the dark
Technical descending
Adjusting pace to the terrain
By running the same passages with different light settings, you will immediately notice how much influence lighting has on your technique.
04 — Test different light configurations
Specifications on paper only tell part of the story.
During the clinic, you will test various STOOTS headlamps and light settings directly on the trail.
You will experience the difference in:
Light beam
Light intensity
Weight
Stability
Comfort
Shadow formation
Visibility at speed
This way, you will discover which configuration truly suits your use.
BRINGING IT ALL TOGETHER ON THE TRAIL
We conclude with a short night trail where you apply the learned techniques independently.
You will learn to make decisions yourself:
How much light do I need here?
Where do I direct my light beam?
Can I maintain my pace?
Where should I slow down?
Which line do I choose on technical terrain?
The goal is not simply to be able to run with a headlamp.
The goal is to learn how to keep moving efficiently when your visibility changes.
PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Duration
± 3 hours
Group size
Maximum 6 participants
Equipment
Use of STOOTS test lamps is included in the price.
So you do not need to have your own headlamp to participate.
Do you already have a headlamp? Feel free to bring it. This way, we can compare your current setup with other configurations.
DO NOT BUY YOUR HEADLAMP YET.
More lumens does not automatically mean better visibility.
Good trail lighting should match your speed, terrain, duration of use, and personal preference.
Therefore, you do not need to buy a new headlamp for this clinic.
First, learn how to move in the dark.
Test different light configurations.
Discover what works for you.
And then decide which equipment suits you.
First learn. Then test. Only then choose.
