Trail Poles Clinic
Learn the technique. Test the material. Find your ideal setup.
With trail running poles from Mountain King.
Trail running poles can make a huge difference during steep climbs, long trails, and technical terrain — if you know how to use them correctly.
During this practical clinic of approximately 4 hours, you will not only learn how to use trail poles efficiently but also which length, type of pole, and transport system suit you best.
No trail poles yet? Perfect.
Test poles and various transport systems are included during the clinic. This way, you don't have to buy equipment first, only to discover later that you made the wrong choice.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN DURING THE CLINIC?
01 — Understanding your equipment
We start with the basics: which pole suits you and why?
Why and when to use trail poles?
Different types of trail poles
Fixed, foldable, and adjustable systems
Carbon versus aluminum
Determining the correct pole length
Using grips and straps correctly
Different ways to transport poles
Single and double quivers
Attachment to a trail running vest
You will see various systems and can try them out yourself.
02 — Walking & power hiking with poles
Then we head into the terrain.
We start with the basic technique and gradually build on it.
You will learn, among other things:
Alternating pole technique
Correct pole placement
Timing and rhythm
Efficient power transfer
Power hiking with poles
Recognizing and correcting common mistakes
03 — Steep climbs
When the terrain gets steeper, your technique also changes.
We practice:
Double pole technique
Steep climbs
Adjusting your stride length
Switching between different techniques
Choosing the right technique based on the terrain
04 — Running with trail poles
Once the basic technique is solid, we transition to trail running.
You practice:
Running with poles
Coordination between arms and legs
Rhythm during running
When to use your poles
When it's better to store them
Quickly taking out and stowing poles
Working with a quiver while moving
BRINGING IT ALL TOGETHER ON THE TRAIL
We conclude the clinic with a short trail course where you combine all the learned techniques.
Here you won't constantly be told which technique to use. You will learn to read the terrain yourself and make decisions.
Deploy or store poles?
Alternating or double pole technique?
Running or power hiking?
When do you switch?
The ultimate goal is not simply to be able to run with poles.
The goal is to learn when and how to use them efficiently.
PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Duration
± 4 hours
Group size
Maximum 6 participants
Material
Use of test poles and transport systems is included in the price.
So you do not need to have your own trail poles to participate.
If we don't have your exact length available as a trail running pole, we will use an adjustable carbon pole that allows us to set the correct length and perfectly teach the technique.
DON'T BUY YOUR POLES YET.
The wrong length. A system that doesn't suit you. A quiver that doesn't combine well with your trail vest.
These are all mistakes you can easily avoid.
That's why for this clinic, you don't need to buy your own trail poles.
First, learn the technique.
Discover which length suits you.
Test different solutions.
And then decide which material works for you.
First learn. Then test. Only then choose.
